Q & A with Rebecca Camhi

A Gallery at the Cutting Edge

How do you feel that Greek contemporary art will develop in the future?

The situation is definitely improving. The Greek contemporary art scene is becoming more international. Art Athina, the annual contemporary art fair of the capital, helps a great deal since it gives people a chance to see what is going on abroad.

What do you think is the future of Greek contemporary art outside Greece?

The promotion of Greek artists internationally is, unfortunately, still limited to the private sphere. A few of the artists we work with, like Konstantin Kakanias, Miltos Manetas and George Lappas, do have successful careers outside Greece.

What are the aims of the Rebecca Camhi Gallery?

We aim to bring international art into Greece. We do not just focus on local artists, but attempt to exhibit a broad range of work, both from within Greece and abroad.

How do you feel the creation of a Modern Art Museum will affect the Greek art scene?

It will give people the chance to get to know established artists without having to travel abroad.
